Bible Journaling Lesson: Temptation

If you have been following along on the blog, then you know that I'm on a weight loss journey. This month's Bible Journaling Lesson was inspired by my journey to lose 100 lbs. It helps me so much to know that what I’m facing, I don’t have to do it alone. I can approach God’s throne with confidence and every time that I start to struggle, I can make a choice to give God the win and not let temptation overcome me. 


The Bible discusses temptation multiple times, emphasizing the struggle between doing what is right and being enticed by what is wrong. One of the most famous passages addressing temptation is:

"No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it." ~1 Corinthians 10:13 (NIV)

In addition to this, the Bible offers various strategies to resist temptation:


  1. Prayer: Jesus teaches his disciples to pray in Matthew 6:13, "Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one." Regular communication with God through prayer can provide strength and guidance in overcoming temptation.

  2. Fleeing: In 1 Corinthians 6:18 (NIV), the apostle Paul advises, "Flee from sexual immorality." Sometimes, the best way to deal with temptation is to remove oneself from the situation entirely.

  3. Scripture: Jesus himself resisted temptation by quoting scripture when he was tempted by Satan in the wilderness (Matthew 4:1-11). Memorizing and meditating on scripture can help fortify the mind against temptation.

  4. Accountability: Having trustworthy friends or mentors to confide in and keep you accountable can provide support in times of temptation (James 5:16).

  5. Resisting the Devil: James 4:7 (NIV) says, "Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." By drawing close to God and living according to His principles, believers can resist the influence of the devil.

  6. Guarding the Mind: Philippians 4:8 advises, "Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things." Being mindful of what we expose ourselves to can help guard against temptation.

  7. Seeking Support: Surrounding oneself with a supportive community of believers can provide strength and encouragement in times of temptation (Hebrews 10:24-25).

Ultimately, overcoming temptation requires a combination of personal resolve, reliance on God's strength, and practical strategies for avoiding and resisting temptation. No matter what you are facing, you are not alone.... do what Jesus did, He prayed, He spoke scripture out loud! Find scripture, memorize it and then use it!  I pray that this lesson will spur your forward in your walk with Christ, and that you will learn to resist the temptations that you are facing. I pray that God gives you supernatural strength to overcome whatever it is that you are facing! May God bless you for your obedience.

I love how you break it down so it easy to understand I have a learning disability and it's awesome that I can understand thank you so much
